I have a paragaard IUD, the copper kind. I've had it for almost three years and absolutely love it. With the copper one, there are NO hormones, which is my only option. It's very like Mirena, I believe there are horror stories to each and every option and it's just up to you and your doctor what is best for you. There is an lj iud group called iuddivas, there is a lot of information there too.

I had never heard of paragaard until I was researching Mirena, which is really the only reason i didn't give it much thought. But thanks for the endorsement, and I will join that group and look into that option. Thanks!

I have been reading a lot about FAM (Fertility Awareness Monitoring). It sounds like it can be pretty effective, especially with a barrier method, but you can only do things that could get you pregnant on certain days of the month. It might be a way of at least identifying your top-5 most fertile days or something.

That would work if I had regular periods, but because of my polycystic ovarian syndrome my periods are wildly irregular without birth control; like 6 weeks to three months late. Yikes!
