The only baby shower I've ever been to was a "poetry slam" baby shower, and it was great fun. It was "co-ed," and there were mimosas and tasty snacks. There were games, but I think my favorite thing was that the hostess had bought a bunch of plain white terrycloth onesies and had a bunch of permanent markers so each one of the guests could "design" a onesie for the wee one. It didn't feel like a baby shower as much as it felt like a party with a baby theme, if that makes any sense.

Well, something I loved at my baby shower was actually my own idea, but I am happy I suggested it. If you have access to cute little stickers, stamps, nice pens, pretty paper and a scrapbook, you can have guests jot down their best wishes, tips on being a new mom, sharing a memory about the new mom or writing a poem, it becomes a really treasured memory. Some of my friends even wrote a letter to Jack so he could know about life before him.
Games can be fun,but you really have to know your crowd. Tasting baby food is cute for the 40+ crowd, cause that the game when they were young but now....not so much. Try doing a trivia game about the weird and wonderful facts of pregnancy and early motherhood and the winner gets a pretty spa like prize. Another game ( but the mom to be had better have good self esteem) is to guesstimate how big the mom's belly is with string. The person closest to her correct " girth" wins. Again, run that by the mom, cause some moms start to cry at that game. I just laughed.
