A quick question...

I thought I had next semester's classes figured out, right from the beginning of the year. The next physics class, the next maths class, a recommended geos class (YAY!) and ELEC280 - an electronics class. Apparantly, it was wanted for the physics half of my degree, so I added it to my program, even though I really HATED ELEC166 - bored the shit out ( Read more... )

dude this whole "fail maths" creeped up on me in the last paragraph. If you're going to be missing some Maths anyway, you may as well be countering the missing of more by doing the 301, which should make it more worth it.

I personally can't pick how Electronics fits in with what you're doing, less they're taking an angle in the subject I haven't considered.

There's core subjects, and then there are ones that are highly recommended. ELEC280 is, I believe, "Simulation and Measurement", and therefore would be useful in the sense of practicals. However, also figured out that is a choice betwween that OR phys278, so would do 278 instead (but I think that has 270 as a prereq...)

And yeah, I think i agree with you. And, well, I really really want to do that subject now... stupid Leigh, giving me the idea ;)

Well, you don't want to fail. Is failing avoidable though, if you miss more maths to attend something you'd enjoy more? I mean, you're in the best position to gauge how you can do when missing half the classes. :)

I'd go for it if I thought I could handle missing the classes. Especially as you'll be forced to miss some anyway.

I may be overexaggerating about the fail thing, as I'm actually rather good at maths (to my eternal shame), and i think I've easily got a D this semester despite missing a class a week... but hard to say how hard the next level will be, y'know? On the other hand I emailed the maths lecturer about my concerns and he said, and i quote:

"Go ahead and enroil. We will figure something out at the start of next semester."

Which is very encouraging. And that was my thought - if I was gonna be missing it ANYWAY, may as well be for a subject i will adore...

I hate to be a boring loser, but i would really say stick with your original plan, becasue in the end,it's only one class for one semester, and you will have better marks on your degree to show for it. Still, bummer.

How boring. :P Of course, I do like the idea of maintaining my perfect 4.0 til the end of my degree... XD

But I emailed the maths lecture, and he told me to go ahead and enrol, and that we would "figure something out" at the beginning of the semester...

It's my GPA. So i have a distinction/high distinction average, which is the best you can get! XD
