If it weren't for the unfortunate old-school racism of Thoroughly Modern Millie, it really would be my perfect musical. As it is, I will still probably still wind up watching it today on Youtube.
Also, after hearing that Kate Middleton has to take royal classes, I kept wondering if Julie Andrews is her teacher.
Yes, I watched Millie for the first time since I was a freaking kid a few months ago (yeah, it's all on youtube), and I was floored. Wow. Was wondering if the original screen play was as racist as the movie. Like, whether the movie informed by a lot of "creative license", or whether Hollywood decided they wanted to 'stay true to the spirit of' the original story's racism (kinda like, say, Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer remakes or something). I know that a lot of films throughout the 60s and 70s were wildly racist, but I felt like the depiction of Asians was especially daring/outrageous, more than usual, even for the time it was filmed. Hm.
