Lead the Way - Chapter 048 - Boxing Day

May 12, 2011 18:07

Before I get started on the mundane stuff : rainniar_words My heart and thoughts are with you.

The sun is shining, the air smells like summer and I am dead tired. What's up with that? It's not like I don't sleep enough. It's not like I run a marathing every day, so why am I always yawning and throwing my bed longing glances? No... Paget Brewser hasn't come by.

So before I fall asleep over my keyboard I would like to say Happy Birthday to pjinabnit and why is your name so complicated that I just spend 3min to find you? :)

Lead the Way - 048 - Boxing Day

“Look Auntie JJ, Santa brought me a car for my Barbie! And it’s pink!” Jill was showing JJ all the gifts Santa had brought them and drew her away from the crowd. The little girl was JJ’s favorite niece and the feeling was mutual.

As soon as they were out of earshot Jill whispered:
“I know Daddy bought it, but it makes him happy when I pretend.”
JJ chuckled. The seven-year old was already smarter than her siblings and knew how to get ahead because of it. She would make her way, there was no doubt. They sat down and played with the new toys for a while. JJ watched Will and Henry in the background.

He fit well into the family, but, as she now noticed, her mother barely spoke to him. Brad had always considered him too weak and soft, but the men had still found a connection. Audrey liked him, the way she liked anyone from the south, because she assumed that they were all republicans.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed but very full of herself, Brad’s wife had nothing in common with the Jareau women. They had accepted her none the less because she made Brad happy and that was always the goal her parents had aimed for their children’s partners. Before her thoughts could go any further, it was time for mass and the family left for church.

The next morning Garcia awoke from the warm sun shining into her room. Yawning she searched for her glasses and looked around. It looked as though she had woken up in a fairy tale.

She was laying in a four poster, to her left side a window as big as her kitchen wall, looking out on a side of hills covered in snow. The interior of her room was a splendid mixture of baroque antiques and ultra modern glass furniture. As she put on her purple robe with a stretching Garfield on the back Garcia started to look for the bathroom.

Careful not to break something she made sure not to touch anything. Soon enough she had found a door and conveniently it was the bathroom. ‘Thank God! I certainly don’t want to meet anyone without having washed my face first.’

“YIKES!” the agent yelled when she noticed that she wasn’t alone in the bathroom. Shaking like a leaf she put her hand to her heart and felt it beating like mad under her scar. The small woman in front of her was Asian, but Garcia couldn’t begin to guess her age. She plucked up the courage and walked over to the woman.

“Hello, my name is Penelope Garcia, but everyone just calls me Garcia.”
“Good Morning, Madame. Would you like to take a bath or rather begin with the treatment?”
“Treatment?” Garcia was baffled.
“Okay. Please follow me.”

In the following hours Penelope was treated to a facial, a peel , aroma therapy, a manicure, a pedicure and a shiatsu massage. For lunch she had been served something she was told was macrobiotic vegetables, but Garcia could have sworn she had never seen half of what was on her plate. However, it turned out to be delicious and substantial.

Usually Emily’s first day in France was exactly what she needed. After chasing murderers and deranged psychopaths she was led to believe by the hands of her masseuse that such horrors were limited to the US. Here, in Europe she could be just plain Emily. No need for supervisory special agents, profilers or guns.

As she was left alone to enjoy the quiet music and the mask she had just received, Emily started to notice that she wasn’t able to relax. Her mind kept showing her images of JJ and Will at her parents’ house. She had never been to East Allegheny but that mattered fairly little.

Seeing her own family, seeing Will again, at Christmas no less, the most familial holiday of them all, JJ was bound to realize that she wanted a family just like that. A family she couldn’t have with Emily, but one that Will was more than eager to give. As soon as JJ had said it, Emily knew that when Will joined her for Christmas she would join him afterwards.

It was pointless to try and change the inevitable. She missed her lover’s voice already but she decided that JJ should be allowed to get a little distance from her first. It would be hard enough on her without Emily making it worse. So, Emily decided not to call JJ.

After her massage, as she rested on a mixture between a deckchair and a couch, the soft tunes of Bach leaking into the room, Garcia noticed that she had seen neither Emily, nor Helena or Sara all day long. Just as she was about to get up a little knock startled her.
“Yes?”

Emily wore a white terry bathrobe with golden embroidery. Her hair was combed down, the bangs clipped to the side with a black hairpin; her face more relaxed than Garcia had ever seen it.
“How do you like France so far?” She sat down on another deckchair. Her friend laughed.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so comfortable in my life.”
“Good.” Emily smiled. They sat together in silence, no worry on their minds.

“Where are we?” Garcia finally asked.
“We’re just outside of Reims, about 2 hours away from Paris.” The blonde nodded but seemed unsatisfied.
“This is Rocky’s place.”
“Who is Rocky?”
“My best friend. You’ll meet her tonight. Dinner’s around seven; I’ll introduce you to everyone.” With that Emily left, content that she done the right thing, bringing Garcia here.
