Lead the Way - Chapter 091 - Nonsense

Nope, today I'm not going to rant. Not because I'm pressed for time again, but because I like this so much it should stand on its own.

Lead the Way - 091 - Nonsense

JJ liked kissing. She hadn’t always. Back in high school she had always dreaded it. As she grew older she found out that it wasn’t the kissing but the kisser. More experienced men were better at this. In fact she found herself enjoying it even more than sex.

A kiss could be so meaningful, so filled with emotion it could do more to her than any other kind of contact. The only thing even more enticing than a kiss, was the anticipation. A look into his eyes, looking down to his lips, imagining how they felt on hers…

JJ never trusted what her lovers told her. She believed that kisses were like thermometers of relationships and that what he felt for her would never be clearer than in his kisses. Did he have lust in his heart or did he really love her? Was he already on his way out or did kissing goodbye simply become a habit?

Somehow kissing Emily had never lived up to that. There was that kiss in Tyler, of which she remembered soft lips and strong arms pushing her away. There was the kiss at the Smithsonian, were both of them couldn’t stop smiling and the one meant to tell Emily that she knew perfectly well what she was getting herself into.

There was the kiss in Vegas that led to her first night with a woman, the kiss goodbye right before Christmas that held as much emotion as water had taste and the one when Emily came home. That last one had told her that it was time to do something, because Emily had already one foot out of the door.

As it turned out she was right, but she couldn’t stop her. JJ didn’t even remember their very last kiss. But she remembered the one after that fateful dinner. How shy and testing it had been. How they were both too insecure for it to be any more than that.

Somewhere along the way JJ had realized that kissing never meant to Emily what it meant to her. She had told herself that Emily didn’t really care that little about her, that she was just not used to expressing herself with kisses. And she had told herself that she was perfectly fine with that.

Nonsense.

Emily liked kissing. How could she not, given that she had first found out about her feelings for women through a kiss? She never felt that way kissing men. They tried and she could even tell that some of them were good, but ultimately it just wasn’t the same.

After Helena, Emily had started to go out a lot more. She started picking up women and perfecting her lines. By the time she met Rocky, Emily had gotten so good at this game that she could tell how the entire night would play out from just one kiss. She could tell what the girl liked, what she wouldn’t agree to and what she could teach her.

Dating Sorina had only made her more astute. From a kiss she could tell if her girlfriend was in the mood for a quiet evening at home, being lazy, or if she wanted to go out and get drunk. The one thing she missed was that Sorina was leaving her. When she was single again Emily tried to read women’s kisses and let on as little as possible about herself.

Somehow kissing JJ had been different. Sure, there were the obvious questions and statements: Do you like me this way? Thank you for bringing me here. I know what I want. But she could have guessed that from the situation and the body language alone.

Yet there was a side to JJ’s kisses that Emily couldn’t read. It was as though she was telling her more than: I like it when you touch me there. That outfit looks fabulous. You’re so smart. Emily knew she was missing something, but she just couldn’t figure out what that was.

It wasn’t like she could ask JJ. No way in hell was she going anywhere near that can of worms! She simply concluded that JJ was used to kissing men and that heterosexuals did something differently. Something she would have learned eventually.

Nonsense.

As far as she could tell there had been no difference to their last date. Yet they stood on JJ’s doorstep saying good night and neither felt like going to bed without a kiss.

She took a step toward her and her hand slipped into her coat, grabbing her waist. She pulled her to her, looking deep into her eyes. She lowered her head a little. She looked down and up again, through her eyelashes. Her lips glistening from the gloss, just a hair breath apart. Her breath was shallow and she slowly leaned in to kiss her date.

Her lips were soft and felt familiar and new. She felt her knees go weak and pushed a little more against her. She could feel her moan into her mouth and her own body respond to that much lower. She could smell her perfume and feel her hair between her fingers and pulled her head back gently. Carefully her tongue slipped past those soft lips and white teeth and then it met hers.

Suddenly the world exploded.
