The Doctor's Message: an episode postscript-fic

I just watched Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead, and oh my, I was blown away.

Definite spoilers for those two episodes are below. I would love to hear comments, but please be aware that I've only seen up through those two episodes and Midnight, which is the one that directly follows it ( Read more... )

The image of the Doctor practicing giving the sonic screwdriver to her in the mirror is both adorable and heartbreaking.

River’s handwriting, the last time he would ever see it.
Oh, I doubt that. River and the Doctor's timelines are so crossed, he'll probably see her quite a few times after the night at Darillium, and given how insistent he is on avoiding spoilers, I doubt he even knows when the last time he'll see her would be.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the episode - it's one of my favorites from S4, and I adore River, while a lot of people I've talked to aren't all that fond of it or her. Then, I have a ridiculous love for characters like River, so my fondness of her is really unsurprising. ^^

Don't tell the Doctor (he wouldn't want the spoilers) but I also doubt he's seen the last of her. I was just trying to get into his head. ;-)

Oh, yes, I adore River more than anyone else we've met except the Doctor himself. I want to see more of her, to know what their life together was, is and will be like. I want to know what happens when she meets the Doctor for the first time and when the Doctor meets her for the next time. And I love, absolutely love, the fact that the Doctor has what certainly seems to be marriage-or-something-like-it in his future. Especially with such a strong, confident spouse.

I suspect that for many people, River's presence is itself an affront to their Rose-shipping. I sat back after watching Midnight, which has a bit of Rose in the preview for the next episode, and I was thinking, "Oh. Yeah. Rose. Rose ... huh, oh, yeah, I was a Doctor/Rose shipper yesterday, wasn't I." ;-)
