“So, you’re really thinking about moving out?” Arthur asks Merlin as they make their way to her history class, one arm careless thrown over her shoulders, holding her close to his side.
After a few days, the stares and whispers died down and Merlin felt a little more comfortable with showing affection in public.
The only one who still made comments was Sophia, but they ignore her.
“Mom is seriously thinking about it, yes. Especially after the plumber said he’d needed to replace the entire kitchen plumbing. It’s going to coast a fortune. Better just to sell the house and find a cheaper and newer place.”
“Too bad. I like having you as my neighbor.” Arthur says, kissing her neck, making Merlin smile.
“I like it too.” She stands on her tiptoes to properly kiss him.
They only part when someone behind them makes puking noises. Merlin turns to see Will. Her face falls completely as the boy passes by them without a word.
“He’s still giving you the cold shoulder?” Arthur asks, watching the boy moving out of sight.
“Glacial.” Merlin sighs, miserable.
“Do you want me to talk to him?” She turns to look at him in disbelief and surprise.
“I don’t see how that would do any good.”
Arthur just smiles enigmatically and kisses her forehead.
“Trust me. I know what to say.” Merlin watches him for long moments, considering, before sighing.
“Alright. It’s not like you could make things worst.”
Arthur snorts, shaking his head.
“Your faith in me astonishes me.” He says with an offended tone that makes Merlin chuckles.
“I’m sorry. You’ll do a great job.” Her reassurance doesn’t work too well since she’s fighting the urge to laugh. Fortunately, Arthur is not really mad at her.
“Just go in. Your class is about to start.” He says with an eye roll, but a tiny smile in his lips belies his annoyance.
Merlin grins happily again and kisses him quickly before walking into the classroom, leaving Arthur to plan how he will approach Will.
