97. Do You Remember?
Merlin stares at the unfamiliar ceiling for long moments.
This is her new ceiling, covered in fluorescent stars, in her new bedroom, in her new house. It was a lot to get used to. Especially when she has so much more in her mind; like the journal all her previous lives had kept; or the fact that she could have her father back if she wants to; or that Arthur had been completely understanding about the whole magic thing… So much to think about… The night wasn’t long enough.
“You’re not planning on sneaking into Arthur’s room, are you?” Morgana asks from the darkness at Merlin’s left. “That would be icky.”
Merlin laughs, turning to general direction where the younger girl is.
“No, I’m not planning on sneaking into Arthur’s bedroom. He snores.” It’s Morgana’s turn to laugh.
“Oh yeah, he does! Like a pig!” Merlin chuckles as Morgana reaches for the bedside lamp and turns it on. “It’s nice.” She says with a smile.
“What? Arthur’s snores?” Merlin replies mocking.
“Oh no!” Morgana giggles. “I mean this. Talking to someone in the middle of the night because I can’t sleep. I wish I had a sister.”
“Well…” Merlin starts grinning. “You have me now.”
Morgana grins too.
“Why can’t you sleep?” Merlin asks after a moment of silence and sees Morgana tensing.
“I just had a nightmare, that’s all.”
“Do you have them often?” Merlin prods carefully and Morgana nods, not meeting her eyes.
“Morgana…” Merlin calls, sitting up on the bed. “Do you… do you remember?”
The younger girl sits up too, looking at Merlin with wide eyes.
“You remember too? About Camelot?” She asks in a mix of hope and despair. “I’m not going crazy?”
“Oh Morg…” Merlin sighs sadly, moving closer to the other girl and hugging her tightly. “You’re not crazy. Not at all. It really happened. I remember too.”
“I thought it was just me.” Morgana sniffs in Merlin’s shoulder.
“It’s not.” Merlin says, rubbing soothing circles on her back. “You’re not alone in this. I promise.”
