Masterlist 113. Prom Night
Morgana walks pass Arthur’s room and pauses by the open door, watching as his brother and Merlin fight for the remote, laughing. She smiles to herself, eyes drifting down to the cast on his left leg. The only reminder of his accident.
It had been two scary weeks where they watched over Arthur while the boy was in coma. But everything was alright now.
“You guys are serious?” She asks, leaning against the doorframe. “This is how you going to spend your prom night? Sitting at home, eating junk food and watching Die Hard?”
Arthur and Merlin pause their struggle and exchange looks, before turning to Morgana with identical grins.
“Yep!” They reply in unison, making the younger girl roll her eyes.
“You guys are so lame.” Morgana taunts before leaving, followed by their chuckles.
“Guess we’re lame.” Arthur says smiling at Merlin. “You’re sure you don’t want to go? There’s still time. It’s not because I’m confined in bed until second orders that you have to be too.”
Merlin looks at him, thoughtful. “Let’s see…” She lifts both hands as if it is a balance. “In one hand we have dresses, corny decorations, cheap drinks and awful music, not to mention a bunch of people I don’t really like. In the other we have junk food as Morgana put so well, Bruce Willis kicking ass and you…” She grins brightly at him. “Yep… I’m pretty sure.”
Arthur laughs and leans over to kiss her. “Good. I didn’t want you to go without me, anyway.” Merlin laughs too.
“So selfish.”
“Totally.” He grins. “I have something for you. In my jacket; inner pocket.”
Merlin frowns in confusion, but stands up and walks over to Arthur’s closet to retrieve an envelope stored in the place he said. She returns to his side, looking at the blonde questioningly.
“Come on, then. Open it.” She hesitates for a second, before tearing the envelope open and pulling its contents out. Two tickets to England dated for the day after graduation. Merlin looks up in shock. “I talked to my dad and your mum. They weren’t very keen on the idea of us traveling together, but they came around eventually. That’s our summer vacation. I figured since you’d need to be familiar with the country you’re moving in to it would be nice to go earlier… And it’s been said I’m a terrific guide and…. Say something please!” Arthur cuts his anxious rambles short, looking unsure at Merlin’s shocked stare.
“It’s… I…” Merlin stutters, looking bewildered. “I don’t know what to say.”
“Just say you like it.” Arthur replies with a tiny, hopeful smile. Merlin smiles back.
“I love it Arthur.” She says, but her smile falls right after. “It’s just…”
“What?” He asks confused. Merlin sighs deeply and looks up to him.
“After the…” She doesn’t complete the sentence, just glances meaningfully to his cast. “We never really talked about the whole college arrangement and what it would mean to us. Last time we tried to talk about it, you said you weren’t cut for long distance relationships.”
“But that was before.” Arthur says careless. “Before I remembered. Before I knew better.” He smiles at her in reassurance. “We’ve been through worst, you said it yourself. We’ll work things out. Don’t worry.”
“You’re sure you want to try?” She asks, still uncertain. Arthur sighs tiredly.
“Yes, Merlin, I am. We’re going to make it. I know it.” He says firmly. “While I was in a coma, I had this dream… I don’t really remember much of it, but the bottom line is: I need you in my life. Past, Present, Future… You’re always there when I look. You’re my destiny, Merlin. It’s like we’re two sides of the same coin.”
Merlin grins wide at that and Arthur smiles back. “What?”
“Nothing.” She answers, inching closer to him. “I just heard that before somewhere.”
Arthur pulls Merlin into a tight hug and kisses her deeply.
“You know…” She starts breathless once they part. “I think I love you.”
Arthur grins. “I *know* I love you.”
