Things McKay hated about Sheppard
Sometimes, Meredith really hated Major Sheppard.
It was unfair really, since she didn’t hate him for the things he did that annoyed her. No, Meredith hated Sheppard for who he was; for all those things that made up his being.
She hated that he was so damn handsome and surprisingly smart. She wasn’t used to grunts understanding most of her techno blabble, or even keeping up with it. Carter was supposed to be the only exception.
She hated how funny he was, how he always managed to make her laugh, no matter how hard she tried to keep a straight face. She hated that he was so charming and the fact that half of the Atlantis female population would come running in a snap of his fingers. She hated how every time he turned that silly, boyish, kind of shy smile of his towards her, her breath would hitch and her heart would skip a beat just like all those stupid romance novels described.
She hated how unbalanced Sheppard made her feel. How he was the only one capable to make her throw away her beloved logic and rationality and act on impulse. She hated how he made her think with her heart instead of her head.
She hated how reckless he made her be; how he made her throw self-preservation out the window and step into the shadow entity that was haunting the city using the Personal Shield just so he wouldn’t do it and get himself killed in the process. She hated how the way he beamed at her afterwards, so proud and impressed, made something warm spread inside her chest.
Meredith hated how in the short few weeks they’ve been in Atlantis, Sheppard managed to worm his way into her heart like a damn parasite; like no one else had ever done before. She hated how it made her feel; how she didn’t know what to do with this feeling or how to get rid of it.
But what Meredith hated the most about Sheppard was how she just couldn’t hate him. He was infuriating and drove her mad, sure, but she couldn’t hate him. Not even a little bit, not even at all.
