I liked Vicki Petterson's series overall, it was very different, her cosmology is really intriguing. It's supposed to be classified as urban fantasy but frankly, I don't see it! It's so much more superhero.
Just a heads-up, the main char continues to be emo and, in my opinion, verges on Suffering Bastard Syndrome by the time the third book comes along, but I'll still continue to read for at least another book.
I haven't had a chance to pick up Kushiel seriously. I think I checked out one of the series a while back, but just didn't get into it. I'll have to try again.
I think Kushiel and Dark Jewels are similiar in a lot of ways, but LKH? Not so much. :) You've reminded me (again) that I need to re-read the Dark Jewels, though.
Kim Harrison is in line imo with Jim Butcher. I have enjoyed them all, and as I have posted, even felt compelled to drive 10 hours roundtrip just to meet her in person, twice.
Patricia Briggs and her Mercy Thompson character is also a good read, even her 4th book that is a spin off with one of the other characters from the books.
You know I stole Kushiel's tat for my back, though I myself couldn't get far into the books, I did enjoy what I read, just not my flavor of read.
