Sick HoneyBoy

So I had noticed that the cat had lost weight and was feeling bony. I made a vet appointment and we went in on friday and did a full exam and labwork. His temperature was very low at 96.5 degrees (normal for a cat is 100-101ish). They got him some hot water bottles and towels as we tried to warm him up. There were no obvious tumors or growths felt ( Read more... )

I mentioned this on Twitter..

call the vet tomorrow and ask them about Pancreatitis. many vets shrug it off, but they can do a special type of blood test (one that is not done unless Pancreatitis is suspected) and a ultrasound should be done as well.

your kitty has classic symptoms of Pancreatitis. Todd has had it three times.

He will probably need either Sub-Q fluids at home (if he doesn't start drinking on his own) or IV fluids at the vet. The antibiotics were a good idea, as the WB count is usually high with this.

You can give Pepcid AC (and ONLY Pepcid AC) to help with the upset tummy. No more than 5mg a day. I usually buy the 10mg and break it into 4 pieces, and give 2.5 in the am and another 2.5 in the pm

Do a little research and see if the symptoms match to you, it sounds like it to me.

We had discussed it being possible pancreatitis at the vet on friday but it wasn't completely shown in the behavior and the labs were inconclusive. The last time he actually had pancreatitis his amylase and lipase were *normal* and there was literally nothing odd in his labs. But, he also had explosive vomiting and we did an ultrasound and his pancreas was a little bit inflamed. When we did labs in 2009 his amylase was high but it was when he was diagnosed with asthma. I wonder if it may be linked with that? I don't know.
I am waiting for the vet to call me back this morning. Honey drank for me this morning from the faucet, which was nice, he hadn't done that in a few days. Still no vomiting or diarrhea, he's just not interested in food. :< I will keep you posted though! Thank you for all of the great info! <3 Old orange cat owners unite!
