Honey Cat

Apr 17, 2011 22:02

I have had Honeyboy since October 2004. He has been my friend for a long time. We have moved umpteen million times, all over Northern Cali, down to Southern Cali and 3 times in Oregon alone. He has always been there for me. We have had our ups and downs, his hobby of vomiting on my floors and trying to sleep on my head were frustrating at times, ( Read more... )

There is no good answer nor is there really any answer that anyone will want to hear.

My thoughts will be with you both.

Losing Macy, my golden retriever, was a very difficult thing to deal with. I made the decision with my mom, though she did the hard part of actually scheduling it. It isn't easy and it unfortunately can't be easy if you love him.

And because you love him, you'll need to make that decision when it comes to that point. The only possible way to frame it is to remind yourself that he's in pain, and you're ending it for him in the most painless way. Macy was dear to me, and I still cry over her sometimes, and miss her terribly. But I know that we did the right thing. And you'll do it too, when you have to. I wish strength in your direction, at least. :Hugs:

I agree with the above commenter; it's totally understandable that you feel the way you do - he's your friend and family member after all, not "just" a cat - but I think you'll know when the time comes that his suffering is simply outweighing his ability to enjoy life any longer. It sounds like even if he's declining, he's not reached that point yet, especially if he's still having good days - so just take it one day at a time, and appreciate the time you do have left as best you can. I know letting go is hard, but it's the price we pay for their friendship, since they live such short lives in comparison to our own. :/ Sending you and him some good thoughts, and hugs when I see you next!

I think Ixwkir and Personaomega said it perfectly...I never really know what to say with things like this.
I know how you're feeling...I was in the same boat last year with Sherbert, and several years ago with Ginger (our corgi before Caylee). You'll know when it's time...they'll let you know when it's time. Just enjoy the good days and make him as comfortable as you can on the bad days. *hugs*
I'm here if you want to talk. <3
