Books I need to read are listed here. I'll form a more complete wishlist later, as I have more fiction to add from recommendations. I keep seeing this "15 most memorable books" meme thingy, and it makes me want to read the books that have been on my list seemingly forever ( Read more... )

books, wish list

Dirty Job is pretty good! Lamb (biff) is my favorite, but Dirty Job is a winner. You might also like The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, which starts a little series of books set in the same town. I haven't read his new book yet (Fool), so I can't recommend it yet. :-)

The longer I wait, the less compelled I am to read another Charlaine Harris book. It's enjoyable fluff, but I sense that I won't enjoy the changes in relationships that might occur. I do that. I might pick up another someday, even so.

Dude, I just saw an ad for Ice Age: Dawn of the dinosaurs. WHAT???? SERIOUSLY. Mammals were only rodent-sized during the age of dinosaurs. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING????

uh... okay. so. that had nothing to do with anything. i'm done now.

dude. dinosaurs are so very cool. and birds are dinosaurs, so some of them never went extinct. they just evolved.

archaeopteryx is definitely my favorite fossil. dinosaur features with distinct feathers? it's just so neat the think about how you go from one to the other, and what evolutionary advantages forced those features to evolve. neatest subject ever.

I love #4 and #12. I have to say #10 isn't as good as his others.

Yeah, I'm actually kinda expecting that about #10. But I can't find another full text that seems to delve into the subject I'm looking for (evolutionary advantages -or lack thereof- in human sexual practices) without sounding as if they're taking a comedic spin or venturing into sociology. So... I'm just gonna try it, but I won't be surprised if it's not exactly what I'm looking for. :-)

I have had so many people recommend #4 and #12 to me after hearing about my eating habits and ethical issues with food. I'm really looking forward to them!

Ya know, I think I might've bought Botany of Desire for someone once... it seems like I did. Or I considered it. I dunno. I flipped through it thinking it was interesting, but not really enough to really want to read it (cuz hey, I don't read enough... I admit that).

So. Last Child in the Woods. Have you read it? It definitely created a buzz in the world of naturalists and ecologists. I think your dad definitely would find it interesting.

Nation's good, as is The Blind Watchmaker. I really want to read The Origin of Species soon.

Also I think Diamond's The Third Chimpanzee might weigh in on some of the human sexuality stuff - enderfem gave me my copy so if she sees this, what do you think?

yeah, i think the third chimp starts the subject a bit, then why is sex fun expounds upon it. so... that's an idea. it might not be bad to start with the third chimpanzee, as i'm sure that i'd like that one overall anyway.

I have to admit I haven't read it yet. In fact, until you mentioned it a few weeks ago...I kind of forgot I bought it for you.
