What's This? A Non-Black Jewels Book read?!

That's right. I've read something other than The Black Jewels Trilogy and Gossip Girl. Finally.

I read this mostly delightful piece of fiction: The Beach House, by Jane Green

It was nice in the way it introduced all the characters, all at various points in their life and all trying to find themselves. The most appealing thing about this book, to me personally, was that she could tell both sides of a story and tell them well - could give all characters motivation and reason no matter the situation and it was beautifully done. Two of the characters, Daff and Richard were married until Richard had an affair and I absolutely loved their story and that of their 13 year old daughter. The fact that she could write all three stories (not to mention all the other characters in the book) so convincingly really won me over.

Some might say that the plot moved reasonably slowly in order to introduce the characters and set the scene, but it wasn't until half way through that I realised the characters weren't even at the beach house - but once they were, while the book sped up, it didn't feel as though it rushed a thing.

The only downfall I felt was some of the language used could have been a little stronger and also the author could sometimes slip between characters thoughts with no distinction, one of my pet hates.

However, for a book that I read in under a day, it really was a very nice, relaxing and easy read.

PS: Jelly Belly soft drinks are amazing. Just saying.
