Just got a laptop given to me second-hand. Yay!
Problem is, the damned thing can't find the modem that I KNOW is in there. Boo!
*sigh*
I really don't want to have to spend $200 to fix a second-hand laptop when I could just save a couple hundred more and buy a new one....

Bring it down this weekend, I've got a couple ways we can try to recover the drivers for it. We can hard-line it into the router, or borrow our USB-Wireless Modem and get online with that.

It comes with grass clippers?
mo dem...
Is that not also an ancient word for "slow internet connection?"
Try this:
Settings
Device Drivers
look for said modem
if there's one listed, or more than one, or one with a yellow triangle over it
write pertinent info down, Windows might ask you for it later
right-click and delete
then use the hardware installation wizard to find new hardware
it should find the modem, install the driver, and voila

I will try to get to the one in Amherst, although there's a Staples just minutes from work here in Concord....

If I get to Amherst, it wouldn't be until Friday. I'll shoot for then.
