Video Format Question

So, I sort of obsessively save vids. If I watch a vid once and like it, I save it, even if that means ripping it off Youtube. And then I carefully rename it to my system, put it into the appropriate subfolder, and have them available for my rewatching pleasure forever ( Read more... )

Give WinFF a try. FFMpeg can read just about anything, and this looks like a decent frontend to it. Name can be a bit misleading, there is a Debian/Ubuntu version.

Oh man, thank you. That works wonderfully. (And is so much easier than trying to figure out all the commands you need for non-gui ffmpeg conversion - I always end up messing up something.)

I'm going to have to play with it a bit as it just turned a 7 MB .rm file into a 44 MB .avi, which seems like the compression on the presets is a little generous, but it worked!

I'm going to follow these threads to see if anybody has any advice, but...in the interim, I don't suppose you have a digital copy of "The Man Song?" I own the M.C. video that vid is on, but I don't even have a video player anymore, much less any way to convert the file. (I'm not sure it was ever digitized...I'm just hoping)

I don't, I'm sorry. I've actually only ever seen the Media Cannibals stuff at cons and don't have any of it.
