The parents aren't pushing her. It's just she's taking advantage of the fact that She-Can-Do-No-Wrong-Because-Mommy-and-Daddy-Are-Big-Shots. She's a real sweetheart the rest of the time, that's why this shocked us. Evidently, she marks 'progress' with 'number of lines'.
Maybe I can talk to her. Much as we love Mr. S, he's lousy when it comes to telling people their strengths in a timely manner. He keeps forgetting to do so when everyone is casted, instead he mentions it to someone else a few months later (like I found out with my comedy ability, I had to hear it from K). I know why she was cast as Miss Logan, and I can see the potential, but no one has sat down with her to talk to her about it ... most insecure types (like myself) need one-on-one time for explanations, otherwise we assume the worst.
Yeep! I hope things get sorted out soon. Though, I can definitely understand how this girl might be offended, especially if he's told her she's doing well.
You've hit right on the core of the problem, and I hope someone will do just as you've suggested and talk to her. Actors are notoriously insecure--and even if not, we all need to feel appreciated. You don't ask Jerry Seinfeld to play Turkey #3 and expect him to get why it's such a fabulous idea in your artistic vision, with no explanation, and no obvious appreciation of his value. At least, not without expecting the extreme hurt feelings you've just described.
