Yeah, I saw that on Yahoo. I would tend to agree that we need one here in this country too.

But, still, I can imagine the conversation you'd have with people after you got out.

"Oh, I was in rehab."
"For what?"
"Video games."
"Um.. okay."

Glad that valuable money isn't going to something like feeding children and curing diseases!

PHEW!

Video Games are evil
Food is evil
Books are the devils play things, yeah, thanks, I've seen it.

This is just stupid. Are there some people that play way too many, yes. Hell I love games, but I haven't really played in months because I have work, the occasional drawing and a life to lead. Moderation in all things.

I've seen parents uses these consoles as baby sitters. If you want to do therapy, look at the root causes. These "evil" machines didn't just go out and buy themselves.

This is for folks who would rather play video games at their wedding receptions. (And, yes, I know of a couple that had the groom playing games at the reception - their marriage ended six months later due to his game addiction.)

It's the same as drug rehab ... the drugs don't go out and buy themselves, either.

BTW - nothing was mentioned about them being evil, just addicting.

But again, what made him like this? What were the factors. Usually people don't just happened upon addictions. They usually have some stimuli that causes that reaction in them. Drink, drugs, sex, shopping, gambling, playstation 2, there has to be a root cause.

I have no problem with helping people if they really have a problem, but the way the article is written just comes off as camp. Maybe it's just the way I'm reading it. The "build interests in other pursuits" line just sounds like buck passing.

Obviously the writer thinks it isn't serious enough, because they didn't dig too deeply into the research or methods of treatment. I'd like to research it a bit more, just to see how they deal with the 'escapism' aspects of gaming and why the need for the escapism.

Well, the only video games I'm interested in are strategy games, like the World War II game "Hearts of Iron 2" or "Galactic Civilizations" or one form the 90's, "Master of Orion 3", a good space-based strategy game.

Would wanting to colonize the galaxy, rather than shooting up demons/vampires/Nazis/Communists/terrorists/zombies/fill-in-the-blank, be truly considered addicting?

I dunno....
