Okay. *deep breath*
I've read "Twilight." I bought it for my sister, heard the fangirl shrieks, and borrowed it from my roommate. It was like going through deep mud, but I finished the thing. Now I see it everywhere-- a copy of the sequel near the cash register at Jamba Juice, t-shirts at Hot Topic,

...It's doesn't work that way, fantasy book or not.
Sorry to hear the sequels are worse. I thought the writing had to improve, at least.

If for some reason you ever want to read something painful for the lulz, I can e-mail you .pdfs or .docs (some I have in each format) of the books. But really, it's probably not worth your time. They are so bad, 8(

I haven't read P&P, either, but I saw the last hour or so (hard to tell, the thing was airing with so many commercials!) of the Kiera Knightly version.
... I thought I couldn't dislike Kiera Knightly any more. But I have found a new depth of distaste at her presence on my TV screen. The only redeeming qualities of that movie were Carey Mulligan as ZOMG! FANGIRL! BABY! SISTER! KITTY! WHO! SCREAMS! EVERYTHING! AND! CRIES! FOR! NO! REASON! and Penelope Wilton, because PW just being in the room makes everyone a little more awesome. Except Kiera Knightly :/
Admittedly, I didn't spot Judi Dench, which might have made the whole thing worthwhile.
I prefer Sense & Sensibility or the Gwyneth Paltrow Emma. Those are classics.

And if you must have your vampires, I'd reccomend the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. Worse packaging (they look like mass-produced vamp!sex novels) but better plot (ghosts. And collegiate vampires. And also a WAY BETTER ROMANCE THAN EDWARDBELLA.)
