I was lucky enough to get to illustrate
"Full Tilt Boogie" by
hansbekhart and
essenceofmeanin. It's a tale of brothers, secrets and the death of disco. There's Sam, Dean, Michael (yay, Mikey!), and a cursed motel. Shag carpeting, polyester pants, porn 'staches, ahoy!
My images are not terribly spoilery but you still might want to read the story first.
I couldn't resist the desolate field -- complete with abandoned toilet! -- where the disco once stood. The Gobbler, the
Grooviest Motel in Wisconsin, was the authors' inspiration. I'm very proud of my Gimp stitchery here; the sky, the horizon, and the two sections of the field are at least six different images.
1280 x 800 I looked at the lyrics to the songs on "Maggot Brain" and knew I had to use these lines somehow. Is the central figure Bones or Sam? I don't know.
This combines the recurring images of the story: the disco ball, the moon, "Maggot Brain", and the heartbeat pulsing through it all.
Oh, the hours you can waste at
wordle.net! I created my own text file of story key words, repeating them to get the proportions that I wanted.
Shaun White, the Flying Tomato of snowboarding fame, was the authors' image for Michael. It wasn't easy to find pictures of him where he wasn't grinning like an x-treme maniac, let me tell you.

1280 x 800 A couple of banners and one cheesy, disco-tastic image of Dean's medallions. Let's all be grateful that I didn't attempt his porn 'stache.
