Fifth Friday of Lent

Apr 11, 2011 15:56

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I wanted to go to a fish fry? Well, that's what Ian and I did this past Friday. Technically, only Ian went but thankfully, the Knights of Columbus offered takeout. I'm really glad we waited because all the proceeds from this fish fry went to an orphanage in Haiti.

During Lent, one of the aspects of faith that's emphasized is charity and every year, I always feel as if I'm lacking in this department. Ian and I give what we can but it's really not much since we live on a tight budget. I could easily give my time but I'm not really a social person so I never know how to put myself out there with regards to volunteer work. At our old church, I would just approach my MIL who would then help set me up with something but here, I don't have that "in." Since we have to eat, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to give to a cause without all the awkwardness and both of us felt good doing it.
