is it that people have this tendency to take a good idea and make it sound so totally hokey and sappy?

One of my facebook friends, knowing I have three girls, sent me the link a website promoting age-appropriate preteen girls' clothing. Here I thought was something decent to check out, and it was... to an extent. Secret Keeper Girl has the basics ( Read more... )

No, I don't think you're the odd gal out. I am all for teaching girls (and boys) modesty in clothing and behavior, but there's no need to make it so damn preachy. I consider myself pretty modest, but am not even Christian. And yeah, the "for your future husband" is creepy to the extreme. I was brought up to dress modestly and those lessons stuck without the "save your treasure for your hubbie" sorts of things. Kids should be kids for as long as they can...

Exactly! Why why does it seem like certain Christian claim such practical things as their sole domain? My one friend is Wiccan and is a firm believer in, as she calls it, moderate dress.

I agree with your assessment. Right sentiment. Wrong execution. Future husbands, grandfathers and Jesus are not the reasons why children should dress like children.

I think dressing little girls like they are 25yo strippers is problematic. There's even a show on cable about those "beauty pageants" for toddlers. I find that really creepy.

Bingo. Kids shouldn't be sexualized because they're kids.

I've seen a few of those 'baby beauty pageants' and think they're wrong on so many levels.
