A scanlation related rant.

I'm not going to cut corners and just be absolutely blunt and honest about this. Some (or a lot) may not agree with me, but this is my stance on the whole Mangafox fiasco and how scanlators are handling it (or not handling it, rather).

Person number one, reporting!

Aw, that totally sucks for Black Mokona, you can tell she tried her best to get across an appreciative and peaceful message and to get that punch-in-the-gut of a response D:

I use mangastream, not mangafox, so I have no idea what's up >o>

I'm a little surprised that scanlators would be so... mmh, trying to come up with a good way to say this. Picky about credits and appreciation... (Okay, no good way to say it!)

I say this as a fan artist though >o> You learn quickly that people don't love you for you, they love you for Pikachu, and only for the few seconds before they click next in the Google search. I would imagine that if you're only the middle man between a fan and the original work the appreciation would be even less so. At least for a super popular series that already has several groups.

That does happen right? Something as big as Naruto or Bleach having several scanlations at a time?

Oh well, the point at the end of the day is: SCANLATE FOR LOOOOOOOOVE!

I can't remember of mangastream is part of mangafox or not :|a like if the same dude owns it. But yeah, it was Mangafox that started this whole mess. Most groups were already side-eying online readers, but it wasn't until MF changed their policy did groups really get up in arms ( ... )

You know the weirdest thing about this is /a/non scans, the group that get butthurt if you put their update schedule on MANGA UPDATES (not even a manga reading site, just MU) have said NOTHING about this ( ... )

All your points would help Mangafox...if only the following didn't apply:

1) The watermark I'm guessing you're referring to is Mangastream and Mangareader? I am fairly sure they're actually owned by the same person who runs Mangafox. So even if it's not Mangafox per se, it's the same person/group so...

2) The money from the ads isn't only going to maintaining the site. If it were, I don't think anyone would care as much. But apparently they're actually making a profit off the ads, and MF also runs that otaku shop. I haven't really looked at it, but just that alone makes me kind of raise a brow because that highly implies a more business motif than anything else. So while generating money and donations to a run site by itself isn't bad, it's when it goes over that and is used for their own profit that changes it. Again, it reminds me a lot more like the Tazmo incident. (actually that whole article is just fascinating to read and it's short xD stoptazmo.com has an actual section on their forum about it but it's loading slow for me ( ... )
