Sorry Matt, I don't think you'll get many responses to this. . . my shame burns as we speak. :)

You of all people! o.O

For shame! LOL.

I'm kidding. Well, I suppose that means you have some work to do, eh? :-D

I'm sorely lacking in this area as well.

I really should read more often. Not that this list is rather "comprehensive" nor is it "quality." I am weirded out by the "Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" being separate entries...same with the Shakespeare ones. Ah, well.

How've you been? I haven't heard from you in a while... :-D

Lame! These are the ones I've read:

5. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
6. The Bible
16. The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
18. Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
22. The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald
28. Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck
36. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - CS Lewis
41. Animal Farm - George Orwell
48. The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood
49. Lord of the Flies - William Golding
61. Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
81. A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens
87. Charlotte's Web - EB White
92. The Little Prince - Antoine De Saint-Exupery
98. Hamlet - William Shakespeare

15 total. . . d'oh! Shouldn't all of the books of the Bible count separately? :)

Haha, they should. :-)

Most of mine were read for English classes either in HS or early college. My HS teacher was all about the "classics" and she had us reading a lot. That's where I read the Tolstoy and such...it was for book reports. :-(

I can't believe you haven't read "The Count of Monte Cristo"! I thought that was "required" HS reading... :-/

Still, you've read some good ones!

Well, if other states are like California/Colorado, usually we 1) use books to match up to the state standards or 2) the school itself has a list of books we can teach.

For instance, I don't think I ever knew a teacher in HS/College who taught Monte Cristo, but where you grew up it might have been all over the place.

But in my Am Lit class, we read a Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I didn't even know that book existed until I taught it! :D (It's very good, btw).

Aw, it is good to talk about goods. :)
