He's had plenty of time to imagine their first pon farr together, to let his mind run over possibilities and worst case scenarios and try to prepare himself. And yet, in all his thinking and preparing and imagining, he never imagined it like this.
He knew it couldn't be as bad as he feared, after all Spock's mother must have gone through several and seems none the worse for wear. Amanda herself confirmed as much, in a conversation he'd really prefer to forget. But knowing something and believing it are two different things, and it was difficult not to fear something that once drove Spock to try and kill him.
Now, as he wakes up to find himself encased in warmth, love and lust and something close to adoration washing over him through the bond, he wonders how he could possibly have feared this. His memories are warm and bright in his mind: Spock moving inside him, Spock's hands raking over his body, Spock's mind intertwining with his as the pon farr tears down all the walls between them and makes them one. The memory of it still takes his breath away. He's always known Spock loves him, of course, but to be able to feel it for himself, without the barriers of control and propriety, is a gift he won't soon forget.
He shifts and the arms around him tighten slightly before relaxing enough to let him move. He looks up and smiles as he meets Spock's eyes. "Hey," he murmurs.
Spock blinks at him, looking confused. "Jim," he says, as if reassuring himself. It's one of the first words he's said since this started. His gaze travels down Kirk's body before returning, the dark eyes filled with concern. "Not hurt?"
It's clear the effort it's taking him to speak, and Kirk's heart swells. Even half out of his mind with fever, Spock's first concern is for his safety. He shakes his head, still smiling. "Not hurt." He leans forward and presses a quick kiss to Spock's lips. "Looking forward to doing that again very soon."
Spock raises a hand and touches his face, stroking gently. His need is beginning to build again, and Kirk reaches down to fondle the growing hardness before rolling over and pulling Spock on top of him.
"I love you," he breathes, as Spock presses into him once more.
Spock doesn't respond, but the feelings pouring through the bond are all the answer Kirk needs.
