Fandom: Star Trek TOS
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Rating: G
Summary: Spock makes Kirk breakfast in bed.
Words: ~250
Notes: Written for the prompt: one person making awful breakfast for the other and the other eating it because they appreciate it that much.
Kirk has always thought of Spock as the kind of person who is excellent at everything. He's smart, strong, brave, a champion chess player, and can read minds.
But apparently one thing he can't do is cook.
Kirk stares down at the plate of... something that has been put in front of him. When Spock woke him with the magic words 'breakfast in bed', he was thrilled, but that was before he actually saw Spock's 'breakfast'.
There's a clump of something yellow that he thinks might be egg, accompanied by soggy bacon, burnt pancakes, and something brown he can't identify. At least the orange juice looks okay, and Kirk takes a sip to buy himself time before he has to tackle the rest.
"Is it acceptable?" Spock asks. "I have never cooked before, and it proved to be more complicated than I expected."
His nervousness seeps through the bond, and Kirk feels a sudden surge of affection. Spock cooked for him. Spock, a committed vegetarian, cooked bacon for him. True, the final product leaves something to be desired, but as his mother always told him, it's the thought that counts.
"It's perfect," he says, smiling broadly. "Thank you."
Spock's expression warms, and Kirk picks up his knife and fork and digs in.
It tastes as awful as he expected, but the look of pleasure in Spock's eyes as he takes the final bites is more than worth it.
(He does, however, make a note to give Spock a few cooking lessons before the next breakfast in bed.)
