Oh goooooodness!!! This is so beautiful and haunting - everything feels very stark (LOL I MADE A PUN!!!) and harsh, and Sansa is the perfect glittering, cold, removed queen. Even when she is comforting Jaime, you know there's something not quite right about the relief that she is bringing him. She's very other-worldly in this fic, which is especially appropriate since we're seeing her through Jaime's eyes. Jaime has already put Sansa on quite a pedestal with his 'last chance for honor', and this is that sentiment really times one hundred. I love how you can take Jaime/Sansa and have Jaime either realize Sansa's humanity, or you take his idealization of her to the nth degree. They're always two very different but very interesting and believable takes on this ship! It really could go either way and of course you do both BEEEEEAUTIFULLY! And even here, we see that bit of humanity to Sansa at the end - the hurt, the betrayal. It's THERE, Jaime just can't quite see it because he sees her so much as an ideal, a fixation here, a salve and ( ... )

EEEEEE you have made me so happyyyyy! I was worried that this would come off as a bit TOO angsty- I was in a pretty lousy mood when I was writing it, so I really laid the misery on thick. XD

I COMPLETELY agree with what you said about Jaime putting Sansa on a pedestal. He has a really bad habit of doing that with the women in his life, doesn't he? SIGH. Oh, Jaime.

This is one of my favorite fairy tales; I've always found it really eerie and weirdly beautiful, so it was fun to explore it more fully through the ASOIAF canon. FAIRY TALE FICS ARE THE SHIZ. YOU KNOW IT AND I KNOW IT.

Thank you for reading, lovely! <33

Oh, Jaime! I don't even know what to say, it's so moving and beautiful and everything I wanted from this prompt. I especially loved the contrast drawn between his youth with Cersei and his present with Sansa. And that ending!

Everything is just so, so perfect. Thank you so much for this!

Yay, I'm glad you liked it! It was such a great prompt- I can't get enough of ASOIAF fics based on fairy tales. And obviously, when it involves Jaime/Cersei/Sansa, that just makes it even more fun. <3

You can definitely feel the fairytale inspiration here. It's like a Russian story, meaning wintery, bleak, and ultimately heartbreaking.

I love so much about this. The flashbacks, because I can never get enough of the Lannisters' childhoods. The mention of Pod and Brienne, which about broke me. And ultimately, that Sansa already knows, when he plans to leave and the fresh pain he'll carry with him.

Masterful, darling!

Thank you, my love. These fairy-tale prompts are such a cool challenge; I sometimes worry that I'm just writing the same stories over and over again with my Jaime/Sansa/Cersei obsession, but framing it within an existing story lets me explore new facets and new styles, which is really fun and refreshing. I'm so glad you liked it! ^^

This has stayed with me long after I read it. Such a lingering sadness, such haunting imagery. Pure beauty on the page!

Damn, this was really depressing. Yet, it was also so beautiful despite the mostly gloomy atmosphere of Jaime's state of mind. I especially liked the strange almost otherworldly presence which Sansa appeared to be for Jaime. All through out the story, she is just the Queen. I thought that was a nice touch.

Yeeeah, this was a dark one. :P It means a lot to hear that the atmosphere worked, since I build my stories off of the setting and sensory triggers before anything else. Thank you for reading! :)
