Hi guys,
Since I'm leaving to visit my brother for the week end and should be without internet :( until tuesday,
HAPPY EASTER to you all :) and for the french speakers JOYEUSES PAQUES!
Now on to more serious things: "Provenance". Follow the cut for some idle thoughts about the ep:
Dean in an AWESOME brother! We knew that but the show is really insisting on showing us how fantastic he is.
You know I love Wincest and this ep was really cruel to us dissecting dialogues and looks to find just a shade of longing, perverts that we are. LOL But I must say I took great pleasure in watching Dean trying to throw girls at Sam even though it plays against the Wincest. I also like that in the bar he was hitting on the brunette and I'm sure he saved the blonde for Sam thinking he went after blondes because of Jess. I maybe reaching here, but I like this idea.
Now on to the main reason why I love Supernatural (besides Dean LOL): When Dean says he lost his wallet, I was mad. I was thinking "come on writers, Dean is smarter than that, it's stupid to make him clumsy just because you need another scene with Sam and Sarah". But shame on me for not trusting the SPN writers (5 years of "Smallville" can do that to a fan, sadly) because of course, Dean tricked Sam into coming back to the warehouse and that's clever writing. I totally didn't see that one coming :)
Another nice touch was how Dean can really be stupid sometimes but only when he's freaking out about Sammy. Forgetting to use his gun in the crypt, god ROTFL. Right before he finally did, I was thinking "Come on, Dean, FIRE the gun already". Love LOVE my show :)
I knew from the start the little girl was to blame because on the painting I recognized the young actress who had already played a seriously creepy girl on "Smallville". This kid is great btw. She was alo in the pilot of "Dead Like Me". Nothing scares me on Supernatural (except the spider in Bugs, shivers) since I've seen every horror movie under the sun but she creeps me out. Great casting here (more on that below).
Has someone ever written a meta post about how Dean always throws himself at food as if he was starving? I wonder if it's in the script or if JA added that... I really like that though. What I can't decide is what it says about him. Is it because Dean lacked food at some point in his life? Except I can't picture John Winchester letting his kids starve. Is it because he's tired of the type of food he eats on the road and can't resist something different like a mini quiche? Dunno, but he sure can't resist stuffing himself at the most inappropriate times (another example is the priest scene in Nightmare).
Two things that were not so good in the ep IMHO:
first, in a previous version of the script, there was a love scene at the end with Sam making love to Sarah. Gee after seeing JP's body (see my icon) it's a shame we didn't get to watch that. Totally useless plotwise but great eye candy, so it's too bad. Plus in the original script the ep also ended with Dean in his car calling a girl (another napkin number) suggesting he would not sit idly while Sam was getting some.
Second, the show isn't consistent when it comes to casting guest stars. Sometimes, they are great like the lady cop in "The Benders" sometimes awful like Ca666ie. The actress portraying Sarah Blake was not awful, but I didn't think she was that great. She looked gorgeous but she was average when it comes to acting. She had great lines and a great part and loving the character was easy, but I'm sure some actresses in Vancouver are more gifted and just as pretty. I watched every ep of "The X-Files", another show shot in Vancouver, and the casting was always flawless so I really wish SPN could do the same.
