If yo have time to answer a qestion, I wold like to know please the relationship of the first stanza to the others, as to me the poem appears to trn on its heel somewhat (not that this is bad, jst that it eldes my nderstanding). And I cold probably read pages and pages abot the gender idea here, bt won't impose on yo to ask that mch, haha.

i was inspired by amazon women- both the mythological greek warriors and the "amazon women" of dahomey.
the character has lost their little sister. she reasons why she goes to hurt herself, she engenders it, in order to excavate the wound. the wound is their grief for the loss of their little sister, which has overtaken their heart.

I'm glad that, though she spears her bleeding heart out, it's not because she thinks having a heart is of gender. And I'm also glad that it's gender that's the problem with breasts and armour, whereas the classical reading of Amazons (and figures like them) has them cutting out femininity specifically. So actually I REALLY like this, that there's this idea in her head that gender=uselessness, rather than womanness=weakness.

You really know how to nail the end of a poem.

well i'm not sure if i remember, but i could've mixed up my facts, as i thought the greek amazons cut their right breasts off to get a better aim with their bows &arrows. overall i'm pretty sure i may have just been attracted to the dahomey amazons because i can't imagine anybody fucking with them.
the story of the greek amazons disappoints me because many of them either surrendered or were forced to surrender to male warriors, which is just lame. but that's greek mythology. you have to have breathtaking beauty to have a name. or that and raped by zeus for a dash of backstory. (still, i love greek mythology.)

to end a poem well i really think you have to understand the urgency of getting your truth across, marry yourself to it.
