There will be a meeting tomorrow after school to plan and distrubute materials (cards and stickers) for the Day of Silence, which is on Wednesday, April 13th.
I encourage all of you to participate. It doesn't require extra time or money, and sends a powerful message.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Day of Silence, here's a breif explanation from the webpage, www.dayofsilence.org:
"The Day of Silence, a project of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) in collaboration with the United States Student Association (USSA), is a student-led day of action where those who support making anti-LGBT bias unacceptable in schools take a day-long vow of silence to recognize and protest the discrimination and harassment -- in effect, the silencing -- experienced by LGBT students and their allies."
About 20 people at school participated last year, and more said they were interested in participating at the next opportunity. Participation in the Day of Silence is fundementally simple: don't speak for a school day. You'll find it's harder than it seems, and quite humbling.
I'll be in the D wing during break to distribute materials to people unable to attend the meeting but still wanting to participate.
If you have friends who would be interested, tell them about the meeting or take some cards for them. The more people we can get involved, the better it will be.
