Apparently my poster has arrived in Seattle and is on my front porch. Glad to live in a safe, low-crime neighborhood ( Read more... )

wrap it in a circle, and stick your head in it :)

if you have a service frame it, be very clear with them you don't want them to cut it, or alter it. had this issue once with a $50 print. they chopped the bottom 3 inches off, because "we had a frame that size"... sheesh.

Good advice - thanks! It was hard enough getting the damn thing, I'm not going to have some asshat ruin it because they're being a bitch. Will they frame while you watch?

How much did they charge you for the service, if you don't mind me asking?

prices will vary a lot depending on materials, and the selection of glass vs anti-glare polycarbonate sheeting, or stuff...

in my case, 15 years ago, the frame cost about 50% more than the poster (which i thought was excessive...), but i still have it, and it's still wonderful, so... worth it.

In my experience, frames are /always/ bloody expensive. For something like this which you'll probably have for the rest of your life, a good frame and matte is worth it. (And it's a bit of a trick to do right on your own -- mostly you need some custom gadgetry to make the bevel cut on the matte -- so again going to a professional is reasonable.)

Any (large enough) crafts store will do this too. Also, buying just the matting will be markedly cheaper than also buying the frame, if the total hurts to think about.

Also, given a sense of adventure, you might be able to frankenstein two poster frames together to be WYW. Note that matting doesn't always fit in a standard poster frame... or may bump the normal cardboard backing.

I use Simply Frames and Miner Gallery on 15th for my framing needs. They are pricey, but Pete and Myron are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I had them frame a needlepoint picture that my mom did. It turned out wonderfully.

I went to them and got them to frame it; it should be done in a few weeks. We went with a double black/white matting, acrylic rather than glass, and a black wood frame. The total is painful - $690 - but it should be worth it. Very painful, though.

Painful yes. I ended up paying several hundred for my piece, but I was very pleased with the end result.

I don't think you will be disappointed.
