Garden, progress

Garden is almost done being planted, for the summer at least. All that's left to do is plant the peppers in the corners of the squash square, and the usual weed/water/harvest cycle that happens every few days (watering a few times a day in the summer, mind ( Read more... )

After growing more and more things in containers, I got a community garden spot. It is the first time I have had a full garden in seven years. I love it, even though it seems to grow more weeds than food at the moment!

Community gardening ftw. My parents had one when I was a kid before we dug out the huge (~20'x40' plus a satellite 10'x15' raspberry patch and another satellite orchard) garden in the field. If I didn't have a reasonable front lawn (with nice side strips that are perfect for gardening), and the landlord's go-ahead, I'd totally be heading the community garden route myself!

Gardening does seem to bring one closer to the land, especially if you get something tangible out of it. I like that, myself. Plus it's good exercise...
