The Elusive 40k And a Teaser

This is so ridiculously fantastic, I can't even tell you. 40k has been my obsession for the past...oh, 10k or so. I seriously canNOT wait for the apotheosis/climax/whathaveyou.

I told myself that I'd post a teaser once I hit 40k, so here goes. It may seem to come out of nowhere, but there's not much to say in way of explanation.

The boy with no name appeared in the woods, completely alone... )

Beautiful teaser. Seriously, loved it. Some of the tone reminded me of Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind, which is one of my all time favourite fantasy books.
Good luck with getting to 50k! I've given up at 45 (because I have the draft of the novel done and don't want to start anything new) My fingers are crossed for you.

Wow, thank you very much. I don't really reread my novels while I'm writing them, but I was just glancing back and this kind of struck me. :-)

I'm at 43k, and getting more and more panicky about hitting 50 with each passing day. I'm just entering into a territory I haven't planned out at all, whatsoever. The problem: it's the climax.

How did your novel turn out? It stinks you can't say you "won," but it's really great that you finished!

Yeah, I'm not too fussed. I've won NaNo three times before, though, so I feel a little ashamed about losing...But. I like my novel very much, actually. It's turned out a lot better than my first drafts usually do, because I've written a lot slower than I usually do (for me 40k = a week and a half to two weeks when I'm in writing mode, doing it over twenty-five-ish days was fairly slow). And I planned! For the first time in my life!

Dw, writing the climax of a novel during NaNo is ALWAYS the most exciting part. Always. You'll figure it out. And yes, you will hit 50k. You can definitely do it! You're really close now...and I like your music, lol.
