Yuletide Letter

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you for writing for me!  I am thrilled to have been matched and I can't wait to see what comes out at the end of this.  I've tried to give lots of details on my own thought processes, and to give you some prompts for each of the Requests below, in case you find those kinds of details helpful - but I want to stress that if ( Read more... )

yuletide, dear author

Maybe it's a Germany vs. rest of the world thing. It's a German/Icelandic production after all, so I guess it stands to reason they'd have it out on DVD here first. I got the book back in '88, finished it just in time for the first airing of the series. I was totally in love with Harald when reading the book. In the movie, not so much, but more than two decades later, I still know his book lines by heart. Kind of worrying... ;)

Hey - which book is it with Harald? I found a book about the whales a few years ago here, but it was just an isolated adventure!

Harald - oh my goodness, that man.

It's titled "Nonni und Manni" in German, like the series. I believe the English translation of the book was simply called "Nonni". The author is Jón Sveinsson (right, that's Nonni himself ( ... )

Preliminary investigations haven't had success, but I will track the English translation down in the end!

Actually, a couple of weeks ago (about the time I decided this was a fandom I was going to push into Yuletide) I ordered the Icelandic dvd set, which apparently has an option for the English audio. They have shipped and I'm eagerly awaiting them! If they don't turn out to have English after all - do the German dvds, that you know? That will be my next recourse. :)

Hahaha, I know what you mean! I spent a lot of my childhood cheating on those so-called bedtimes and making up additional stories, and not having read the original as you have I was obsessed with the series and Skipalón was my favourite sequence. One of my favourite moments in the series actually is when Nonni decides to climb outside to help - because he has a torch, the others are in danger, and/or he can't keep himself from doing the crazy. Harald is just naturally so awesome that you expect it, but Nonni has the same instincts, I think.

As a kid, I really loved the Dark is Rising. So good! Especially "The Dark is Rising" and "Silver on the Tree."

I also vaguely remember seeing a snippet of Secret of Kells, and was there a book? I might have read it a long time ago. But maybe I'm confusing it with something.

Nonni und Manni looks really interesting!

All this makes me want to write again. Maybe I'll write something in December if things aren't too crazy.

Well, if you're looking to watch a movie, the link up above I've given is to all of the Secret of Kells, available in high quality on Youtube. Don't ask me how this is possible. I thoroughly recommend it - esp. as it sounds like you need a break these days!

Yes, I also really like the Grey King, even though the plot is somewhat confusing. And Greenwitch. And Over Sea... OK, I like all of them - but I love the crossover books especially. I love how Jane sees through Will almost instantly.
