I meant to mention yesterday that as I'm re-reading Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, I keep anticipating the events that happen later in the book. Except I keep confusing later events in JSMN with events in Vanity Fair. I didn't read the two books that close together, so I'm a little surprised that they keep entertwining so vividly, although I ( Read more... )

Hm, good point. I tend to get the impression Austen was a bit sheltered from the wide world, despite her arch and clever tone.

And I want to add that a Vanity Fair/JSMN crossover would be awesome, though certainly only accessible to a particular niche of the population. :) Becky would find some way to outwit and screw over the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair, I'm sure of it.

If I had any inclination to write fanfic, I think I would far rather write this idea than just about anything else I've ever heard of in fandom.
