On the way to Florida, we stopped and visited Young's aunt and uncle. While there, I used a scale for the first time in about 6 months, and discovered I was over 170 lbs. Up until this last year, the most I've ever weighed was around 155 my sophomore year of college -- weight that I took off quickly by imposing a no snack and no 2% milk (skim only ( Read more... )

this sounds fabulous. I really, really need to kick it into gear as well. . .everyday I'm just totally shocked by my complete lack of food control. It's not that I don't sit down and eat hugely unhealthy, greasy meals (most of the time), but that I'll always get mayo instead of mustardn...or a side of fries when I don't really need them...or I'm always going back for that third coke. And yes, I do "treat" myself to widely unhealthy take-out more than i should. Erik and I were saying that even with our desires to be healthier and my gallbladder issues, we've probably eaten worse in the past two weeks than we have in months. I think it's because school is finally starting up again and I'm grabbing fast food on the go instead of getting my healthier stuff in the fridge ( ... )

I know you don't believe in diet soda, but I have to say the single biggest change I've made to my food intake is beverage-related. I've gone from about 10 alcoholic drinks a weeks to about 3, and I'm sticking with either diet soda or coke zero. I'm not drinking coffee anymore, because by the time I got my cream and sugar in, I was looking at 100+ calories per cup. I feel like, for my 100 calories, I'd rather have two oreos (well, not quite two oreos) or a handful of potato chips than a cup of coffee. And I'll take a coke zero over a coke if it means I can have a small french fries with my burger. I'm still occasionally drinking juice and milk, because they have some nutritional value, but I'm mostly sticking to unsweetened tea, diet soda, and water.

Yes, I'm not a big fan of diet sodas at all. . .what I've been doing is switching to crystal light. Drinking water all the time bores me, but I've gotten those little single-bottle mixes for work and I can get crystal light as my break drink at lunch. It tastes good and is light on the sugar and additives. I'm also trying to do a mix of sweetened/unsweetened teas, sometimes green tea, and if I really need soda, I go with sprite or root beer to avoid the dark/caffeine. we'll see how it works!

also, agreed on the alcohol. Obviously avoiding it now 'cause of the surgery, but I've been trying to cut down on just having a beer to have a beer. I"m going to get Erik on the bandwagon soon too.
