Where flowers bloom so does hope

I have now returned from two conferences and looked at my garden in some confusion. During the two weeks I was gone, the soapwort and the musk mallow came into bloom, and the garden is now a riot of white and pink, with the occasional yellow (rue, St. John's wort) and blue (cornflower) sticking up among it. I've made a serious effort to acquire white ones - that's where the red ones come from, they were labelled as white when I bought them. Now I finally have three kinds even if the white currant bush doesn't come as high as my knee yet.

If you're home for awhile maybe we can see each other IRL? Today must write though, and tomorrow I must attend a funeral, our latest professor emeritus has passed away - not unexpected but way too soon.

Alas, I run off to Ireland tomorrow (this is a hectic summer..). But I return on 11 August and will then be home, except when I'm working.
I saw the obituary in UNT; too bad, as good professors don't exactly grow on trees...

Pity, but take my greetings with you. This is a hectic summer indeed, but at least it's warm now. I'm away 10-17 August myself. See you afterwards. Yes, a good professor deserves to be mourned properly when passing away.
