As a longtime Harry/Draco shipper who has read and written hundreds of thousands of words that had nothing to do with angry!sex and everything to do with exploring and enabling a relationship that canon-wise seems impossible because the two counterparts hate each other, I emphatically disagree. The lure of hate pairings is not in making do with what is canon and never moving beyond that; it is in taking the canon and letting the characters grow, separately and together, with canon as the basis. That's the kind of fic I find interesting in general; not the sort that endlessly riffs on what canon provides without extrapolation.

I haven't read the manga or the light novel translations, but from ep7 it seems a canon fact to me that the hatred Shizuo has for Izaya is purely instinctual; he initially has no good reason to hate him other than he doesn't like Izaya's face. That's really not the stuff eternal grudges are made of. That Izaya's the one who'd been setting goons on
