best rejection letter ever.
not that i made mention of it, but a few months back i wrote a terrible poem for
Half Price Books "Say Goodnight to Illiteracy" children's book contest.
i can NOT write for children,
so it's no surprise that a generic "thank for entering, but you suck" letter was in the mail today.

coupons and other pleasant little trivialities would make getting countless rejection letters soooo much better. we should campaign for that. is there a way for penniless writers to campaign for anything? maybe we should unionize. Penniless Writers Local 101 unite!

"damn the man, fight the empire!"
but how would we strike?
perhaps we're better off trying to get a hold of some of those subsidies
since some farmers are paid by the government not-to-grow crops and some medical schools are paid not-to-train doctors, it seemed logical that a case could be made for the government to pay penniless writers not to publish.
to congress!
