I would give her some time. Just let things sink in a little bit for her over winter break. I know a month seems like an incredibly long time but I think she needs you to give her that space. Then, when you are back, when you have the opportunity of being face-to-face with her, you can then judge to see how things play out. You can do as you say - take her to the side or "act like normal, and then just gravitate towards it."
Oh, by the way, the letter was really sweet. Almost exactly the same as the second version that you sent me. Haha.
But one thing is, may be giving it to her the night before she had to leave was not that good of an idea. I think it may have been better to have told her before and gave her some time to react to it face-to-face with you. Instead of wondering if you should call her. But, for now, whatever you do, do NOT call her...I am inclined to say that will just make things ten times more awkward for both of you and you wouldn't want that, would you?
