Candyland - open to the TARDIS

Jul 21, 2010 15:49

When the TARDIS lands with a decisive thump and a groan of protest, the Doctor makes a mental note never to press that particular switch again. The thing is, he is quite sure he'd hit the fast return switch; it'd been on the fritz for some time now, and with Amy and Rory happily poking around the market stalls in Casablanca, it had been the perfect ( Read more... )

Well, that had been a particularly unpleasant trip. Not that the TARDIS isn't (regrettably) used to being rudely pulled off course, but this time she hadn't only felt herself pass through the vortex, but through a barrier into an onslaught of disconcerting sensory input. Half the readings don't make sense and the other half is eerily familiar. Another universe, perhaps? The fact that she isn't rapidly losing energy or detecting otherwise adverse effects on her systems, at least, is somewhat reassuring.

The idea of inhabiting her human form in this situation doesn't even occur to her for some time, as she must never get involved in normal events and besides, it's just not something she does. But when she senses that the usual rules don't apply in this place - another worrying realization - the thought strikes her to assist the Doctor in a more direct way for once, and she hurriedly follows him. Once outside, she pays significantly less attention to her surroundings than him, since what she sees might as well be a visual representation ( ... )

The Doctor's teeth are just clamping down on his first bite of a biscuit, having scanned and re-scanned it with his sonic screwdriver and ignored the fact that most of the readings came out as gibberish. He stops mid-chew, looking in the direction of her familiar voice with the face of a boy caught with his hand in the...well.

He finishes chewing and waves her over, sonic still buzzing away until she's at his side, when he snaps it shut. "Ah, lovely. Feeling alright? I seem to have pressed something I shouldn't have. Again. Sorry. Biscuit? I think they're safe to eat."

"We- err, what?" She blinks at him, taking a moment to realize that he's offering her a biscuit. ...A biscuit? With a frown, she takes the proferred sweet but then shakes her head, thoughts still firmly on the problem of their location.

"It was nothing you did. Something dragged me here, and I cannot tell where here is." For someone who, even when transported by chance or against her will, always knows where in time and space she is, this is extremely disconcerting.

"Neither can I," he mutters disinterestedly, his attention focused on a candied buttercup at her feet - one that turns out to be filled with a sweet nectar, which he dips his finger into and unabashedly licks before holding the flower up to her.

"I couldn't make any sense of the readouts; everything just went all technicoloured and wibbly. Another universe, perhaps? But I can't shake the feeling that we've been here before."
