1_million_words original fic challenge

I've found 1_million_words very useful this year to help me keep on keeping on with getting some words on the page more days than not. My goal for the June fic challenge was 2500 new words on a new fic after "finishing" my novel

I'm so intrigued by "Billie Mae"! It leaves me wanting more. You mentioned that this is the very beginning but I don't know if that means the start (after the title page or whatever) or if there's a bit of set up before that, but either way, I love it. I can't remember the last book I read that started like that and leads the way to solving whatever mysteries come up.

That's the first line on in Chapter One. No prologue or other set-up :-) I'm hoping to have my final edits for now in place within next two weeks and then, since you offered a few weeks ago, I'll shoot it to you for feedback on how it reads, what works, what doesn't :-)

And I am very slow to get here, considering it was my challenge that these excerpts are for! but I am delighted to have finally got to them. I like them both very much; they're intriguing and definitely make me want to know more. And I smiled very widely when I read that Taka has Maori heritage!

Keep going, I'd very much like to see where you take both of them. ;-)
