Creeper Jerk Alert

Oct 13, 2014 19:26

Hey, everyone! Since this is a community of creative people- and since I know at least one LOM member besides myself has been effected by this, I figured I'd share. There is a sleazy website, fanfic-journal.com, that is ripping any public LJ entry with a tag of "fanfic," "fanfiction," or anything similar and posting it directly to their own ( Read more... )

I'm not sure if I should laugh at that third entry being a copy/paste of a warning that this person is doing this crap....

Yeah, the person I heard about this from was talking about how someone had labeled a post about what the site was doing as "fanfic" just to prove that everything tagged that was being stolen.

The nerve of people, I sear.

I managed to do some digging over at the WP site, but it looks like without specific links (and an account) anything remotely breathing the same air as Creative Commons is fair game.

However, I don't have CC, so I'm not sure if I could get a complaint in. (Not that I'm signing up just to file a complaint)

Also.. there's a chance it may not even be a WP account, and they're just piggy-backing the server.

*watches Andrew to cheer up*

So.. one of my locked posts is there, in it's entirety.... o.O

Also, going through WP's DCMA process is a waste of time, because the source material isn't on WP.

That's insane. And this asshole can ride Creative Commons til she... I won't finish that, it's vulgar, but anyways, copyright law says anything posted online is copyrighted the minute it's first posted. Meaning Creative Commons can go fuck itself. CC permission has to be granted by the original poster. If ut's not, it's copyright infringement, plain & simple.

I'm going to complain to LJ once I get to work. They keep talking about how safe and secure they want users to feel. I don't feel secure. They need to nip this shit before it gets worse.

I turned in a support ticket to LJ. They probably won't be able to do much, but maybe they can at least stop them from getting any more.

I checked the page again today, and I'm pretty sure you're on their exclude list now. There were 50 new additions today.

Here's hoping it gets around and they realize it's more trouble than it's worth!

I keep trying to explain copyrights to this bitch (who seems to read fanfic in English just fine but somehow can't understand Google results for "internet copyright"), but it's like talking to a brick wall.

You're not on the exclude list, btw, but all of your entries have been removed.

Hi I saw your post here, because katleept is on my f'list and I was curious about the com.

That is a really crappy thing and they seem to be reposting from at least one com I am in.

So thank you I am glad I saw this post.
