Ooops

So yet again I cock up the Annual German Hoon, this time with a rather amusing little off in heavy traffic while joining the Brussels Ring Road. Damage to the bike purely cosmetic (it looks like - thank you, R&G crash bungs) but I was a touch impacted, having gone over the top and landed flat on my back.

This was last Friday afternoon and it was ( Read more... )

ouch ouch ouch ouch

you should have phoned me -- I have clients who are good friends in brussels, and they would have been more than happy to help out in any way.

and their offices are right there at brussels midi -- dunno what was wrong with the ibis, I stay there all the time. clean and tidy in my experience.

v glad to hear you are recovering tho!

Ibis Brussels Midi - nice enough hotel, 49 euros a night, less pleased with the Congolese gentleman who phoned the room at 0200, 0415 and 0530, ranting about windows and prostitutes and actually came to the door at 0330 to discuss same. Reception maintained there was no such thing going on, even with the cuff of his stripy shirt offered as evidence.

I'm pretty sure I wasn't hallucinating!

ouch^n

hope it all heals up quick.

And, I can scarcely believe I'm actually agreeing with Ken here, the euro health card and euro recovery are the biz. Having used 'em both when I burst in Biaritz back in '01.

Fortunately I had Euro breakdown insurance and the bike is currently en route back to the UK - that took some sorting out Friday evening. Coming home rather than engaging with the Belgian Health Service was calculated; I was pretty sure that once a hospital got me in its clutches it would be at least a 48-hour stay and I didn't want Valerie going frantic in Gloucestershire with me over the Channel. I was equally sure that I could make it home, albeit running close to to "empty" when I got here ( ... )

I did wonder about the "lunch function" :-).

The Brussels ring-road is a bit manic, from memory. Not helped by various merges and splits that seem to be not that well thought out.

Filtering in a train of bikes always worries me a little. On the plus side, the bike at the head of the train usually wakes dozy drivers up so that they are less likely to somnolently drift into or through you, and on the minus side, the bike at the head of the train usually wakes dozy drivers up and may well startle them into doing something irrational and unpredictable...

Crikey! I'm glad you're more or less OK.
