Dear Yuletide Author,
First of all, yay! We share a fandom! Thank you so much for volunteering to write in whatever it is!!! =D I'm really looking forward to what you're going to do! As far as general fic writing goes, I'm not terribly fussy. I'll read most anything, although I do have a particular fondness for gen/friendship fics rather than pairings. That being said, I read and enjoy a lot of pairing fic, of whatever rating and arrangement. I like stories that fill gaps or take interesting twists - find hidden moments where a slight change would create a butterfly effect. More than anything, I like good characterization. If you'd like an idea of stories that I've enjoyed reading in the past, I do have a tag on here for recs that can give you a better idea. The fandoms below are in alphabetical order, since I'd be super happy with any of them and can't really impose a preference on it.
Dragonriders of Pern - Anne McCaffrey
This is a sentimental favorite of mine - I first read it over a decade ago and part of it is still sitting on my bedside table. In particular, I have a weakness for Robinton. (Masterharper of Pern is the one still on bedside table.) I would kind of love fic with him and Kasia, either before they get together, or some third-party perspective of what happens after she dies, or perhaps Robinton returning to Tillek Hold may years down the line when Oterel dies. Or really, anything with Robinton. Alternatively, I have an undying fondness for Menolly and for F'nor, and would be happy to read anything about either of them. Or Sebell. Or Ruth and Jaxom. ... Did I mention the flailing enthusiasm for this series as a whole? Just please do try to make sure that whatever you write for sure involves either (1) music; (2) dragons; or (3) both. Beyond that, I'm sure I'll love it. =)
Oregon Trail
All right, I admit, I'm mostly just curious to see what you can do with this. I always used to tell myself a story in my head as I went West, since there wasn't really much plot to be had in the original game. I also almost always named one of my five characters after my older sister, Kate, so I'd appreciate it if you did the same. (The rest of my names had little enough consistency to make it not matter, although I also used Chris a fair chunk of the time.) So really, whatever seems like it might be a good way to go would be okay with this - the whole journey if you're feeling ambitious, or a particular moment in time (for example, for no discernible reason, I always liked arriving at Soda Springs) would be equally awesome. So go wild, I leave it pretty much entirely in your hands.
Suikoden V
Gosh, where to start...? Suikoden V is a beautiful story with beautiful characters. Maybe my favorite moments in the story focused on the idea that characters, though on opposite sides of the fight, nevertheless had a healthy and genuine respect for one another - the sort of, if circumstances had been different (and in many cases, when circumstances were different), people on opposite sides of the war were friends. So I think it might be nice to see that. As an example, maybe Raja and Bahram Luger back in the days when Raja was teaching him how to be an awesome sailor. Alternatively, something about Georg and Ferid along the way to their fateful end (preferably a bit happier and a bit gen-ish). Or if you're feeling the drama side of life, a continuation of one of the alternative / bad endings. I think there was a lot of untapped potential in them that could really be exploited. I'm a happy endings kind of girl, but if you can't make that work, it'd be fine just to know how everything would have ended. Also, I adore Georg Prime and Sialeeds, so something about them could work, too. Or Prince/Lyon fic. Yea. =)
Thank you again, and happy writing to you!!! ♥
