...of course, having said that...

...I just got 89% in the assessment that covers igneous and metamorphic rocks, with not a single incorrect answer (just a few missing details).

Of course, being good at something and liking something aren't quite as closely related as all my teachers used to hope :)

I notice you say "hope, not believe"!

Most careers advisors at school are only really in a position to give one piece of advice with any conviction: Don't be a teacher.

The careers advice I got at school basically went:

"What do you want to do?" "If I knew that I wouldn't be here."

"Well what are you good at?" "Everything."

...followed by a long silence.

Also, of course, by the time people started giving me careers advice, I'd already finished my Standard Grades and started my Highers. So even if the careers advisor had been better than a chocolate teapot, some of the careers I might otherwise have been interested in I'd already cut myself off from with my subject choices.

For example, both of the subjects I'm studying now :)

Were those options for Highers?!

No, but in order to do what I'm currently doing I would have needed to have biology and geography at Standard Grade, and probably biology/geography/chemistry at Higher.

Rather than Physics/Maths/History/French/English, which is what happens when you just pick a random combo of what you like and what you're best at :)
