The fantasy/sci-fi author Piers Anthony is also quite adept (pun intended) at creating similarly creative creatures and plotlines. If you enjoy the fantasy genre and are interested in a bit of lighter reading - the books fuse humor, fantasy, and in some cases juvenile writing - you may want to check out the first couple of books in his very long-running Xanth series ('A Spell for Chameleon' is the first book) or the Apprentice Adept Trilogy (more of a fusion of fantasy and sci-fi).

I just did some internet spelunking and discovered this Mr. Anthony you speak of. This guy has been around for awhile and there is no shortage of literature. Once I get through the last HP book I will have to start a new venture. Some of his stuff looks great!
In his latest newsletter, he is analysing the inside of a green pepper- right up my alley. I have a habit of dissecting produce from time to time and discovering it's beauty and my co-workers think I am out of my mind- not like that has ever really bothered me but it does surprise me how narrow minded some people are. Anyway thanks for the information- going to Chapters tomorrow ;)
