The Hunter - Meta Post Chapters 1-3

I've got a massive Word .doc sitting on my hard drive with all the background research I did before I began writing The Hunter. Since this is very much a history-based story, I thought I might share some details about the events and places mentioned in the fic. Who knows, if inspiration hits this might just be an ongoing series.

cool beans....But then, I'm the sucker who spent a small fortune buying books of Japanese culture, folkways and history instead of InuYasha memorabilia....(well, I did get some, but way more of the serious Japanese stuff). Thanks for sharing this.

No problem! I hope to share more down the road. I've got a LOT of info in this word .doc hahaha

I really enjoy it when I can tell an author has taken the time to research a time period. All the small details really add up to give the story a sense of realism. Mad respect for historical fiction writers. That's one of the things that majorly drew me to your story. Your hard work with all the research is much appreciated :)

Great job of giving us a behind the scenes look at The Hunter. The roads fascinated me when I was writing Entangled since all four main roads during the Kamakura Era ended at the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū Shrine in Kamakura. Historical background makes the story more real.

I think so too! It's like crack for us history nuts. I've always been into the historical fiction, right from my first bodice ripper romance novel :D

Japanese history is just so fascinating. There is so much depth there and literally thousands of years of culture to play with. You kind of feel like a kid in a candy store. The roads are incredible! To think - an entire island of a country connected by 5 measly roads. And the extent to which they kept them up over the years too... I mean you can still talk many of them today! It's hard to imagine stuff here lasting that long.

When writing a fic like this it can be really tempting sometimes to just say f*ck it and write what you want, but taking the extra time really is worth it. At least to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the post! I hope I can do more with the later chapters :D

Very detailed. Love that you took time out to research all of this. The landscapes are beautiful. And your right, I can't imagine that garb would be very comfortable to travel in. I couldn't walk down the block in that, much less hundreds of miles. :P

Thank you so much! It's been great to have the chance to share my research and give a bit more depth to the story. Lucky for Rin she doesn't have to travel too too far in that kimono! I couldn't have done it either :P
